Having lived in Europe now for over 4 months, and given my previous tours in European countries, I have come to a shocking realization – drinking alcohol in Europe is very different than in the States.

What do I mean by this?  Quite a few things actually.  For starters, the alcohol is just better in many ways.

  • The beer tastes better – I’ll take a German beer over Budweiser any day.
  • The wine is better – from France, Germany, Italy – fresh grapes, no preservatives, local Italian feet stomping on the fruit…
  • They have absinthe!  Illegal in the USA!
  • Rare hangovers. How is that even possible?  What a magical gift!
  • And you never actually realize you’re drunk….what?!?!?!

Yeah that’s the problem. In Europe, the alcohol is so good, you don’t even realize you drank too much until the next day when you can’t find your cell phone….and there’s Mike Tyson’s tiger in your bathroom and a mattress on the roof.

Not that I’m in Europe drinking absinthe, please. I’m a lady AND a new Polish wife, I have to behave and stick to my tea with milk.  I just find it so odd and alarming that a few glasses of wine every now and again can leave me struggling to remember conversations. I know at the time I feel lucid and in control but then the next morning comes and I’m like, “I told WHO that I’m friends with the President?”  Good thing I usually have Tony with me to confirm whether or not I said/did something stupid.  Now where does Mike Tyson live again so I can return this tiger?
